Importance of Story Telling
From the dawn of humanity, storytelling has been a universal thread that weaves together the tapestry of traditions, tribes, cultures, beliefs, cuisines, products, historical monuments, and scriptures. It is a powerful tool that can either unite or divide a group of people.
If you think about it, most of the decisions we make about purchases sometimes depend on a story.
Do you have a favourite t-shirt brand? There must be a reason why.
If you are a fanatic of any art or literature, there must be a reason.
Imagine someone out there who has mastered the art of storytelling. They're not just telling stories; they're crafting experiences. That's how they stand out. That's how they captivate you.
Your bonds also depend on how well the person of interest has shared their story with you. It's not just about the story itself, but the way it's told that can captivate you. If it resonates with you, you might want to know them better. If what they have to share strikes a chord, you might want them around.
Consider this: when you make a purchase, how often does the story behind the product influence your decision? Whether it's a brand's history, a product's origin, or a personal narrative, storytelling plays a significant role in shaping our consumer choices.
On a primitive level, if done right, storytelling allows one to carry their value system over generations.
How do we get better at it?
Like every other skill on the planet, we practice. We talk more. We read more. We write more.
Wishful thinking hardly gets one anywhere, no matter how great that intent exists.
There's no other option but to embrace the transformative power of storytelling. Get in the pits of 'shameless action-taking' and get your hands dirty. Either fail in isolation or fail in front of the world. You get to learn either way, and that's where the real growth happens.
Step 1 is to be well aware of your biases, how you function, how you deal with people, what triggers you, what comes naturally to you, what you enjoy doing, what you can do better, and what feedback or compliments you most commonly receive about your personality and behaviour from your friends, partner, or family. This self-awareness is the key to unlocking your storytelling potential.
Once you look at all this information - zoom out.
Then, you will better understand what you lack and what you can improve upon
